ANEST COLLECTIVE Presents The Venice Collection Vases and Candles by Marco Parmeggiani

ANEST COLLECTIVE img

ANEST COLLECTIVE introduces a collaboration with architect and artist Marco Parmeggiani, who designed a pair of scented candles poured into traditional hand blown Venetian "Gotti" glasses, with a custom fragrance created by ANEST's Creative Director, Gregory de la Hogue Moran.

Created in a small batch historic Murano workshop, these pieces bring Venice - its fire, light, and labyrinthine essence - to life.

The labyrinth motif is central to this story, bringing Venice close to Shanghai in the shared cultural dialogue so dear to the brand's founders. In Chinese tradition, the migong, or perplexing palace, conveys the awe and mystery of spatial complexity, much like the imperial gardens of the Forbidden City. Similarly, the water labyrinth that is the city of Venice evokes a sense of wonder and discovery through its winding paths. This connection between East and West underscores ANEST COLLECTIVE’s philosophy of bridging cultural identities through design.

Additionally, ANEST COLLECTIVE exclusively displays a series of vases signed by Parmeggiani in the Corso Como popup in Milan, during the week of January 23-30, and permanently in its flagship store in Shanghai.

Marco Parmeggiani’s Glass Creations

Inspired by venetian lampare lanterns, Marco Parmeggiani‘s vases are unique. Each piece is created using a double glass-blowing technique, where multiple artisans work in tandem. Blown into a bronze parallelepiped cage, each combines glass with bronze or iron, requiring a meticulous cooling process over four days to prevent cracks.

In the heart of the furnace, molten glass glows as it is shaped by Murano’s master artisans. The heat, fire, and rhythmic dance-like movements of the glassblowers create an atmosphere of intense focus. These vases, closely tied to ANEST’s Act I collection, reflect the forms, textures, and colors of the garments in ACT I, including hues of purple, blue, and green. Inspired by Prometheus and its relationship to fire, Parmeggiani’s work reveals the alchemical possibilities of traditional craftsmanship pushed to its limits.

I Gotti: “Torcello Rigadin” and “Castello Balloton”

The term goti de fornasa refers to the traditional drinking glasses crafted by Murano glassmakers. Historically, artisans would use leftover materials from their workshops to create these vibrant, colorful cups for personal use during their laborious hours by the furnace. Each glass was unique, often featuring irregular shapes and a variety of colors, reflecting the individual preferences and creativity of the glassmaker.

The two Gotti candles designed by Marco Parmeggiani for ANEST draw from two traditional techniques. The balloton technique creates a diamond relief pattern that refracts light, while the rigadin introduces vertical ridges with an elegant, fluted effect. The heat and fire of glassmaking juxtaposed with the serene, cool tones of the Venetian lagoon are captures by this pair of black, white and amethyst candles, crafted in the same furnace as Parmeggiani’s vases.

Evoking the atmosphere of Venetian palaces, they feature a custom fragrance of geranium, incense, and oud. Each plate, adorned with a depiction of a migong, or labyrinth, serves as both a candle holder and a cover, weaving storytelling into function.

Relight Venice

Each candle is hand poured by Venetian wax artist Michela Bortolozzi, founder of Relight Venice. Michela’s initiative revives local traditions by repurposing wax from Venetian churches to create handcrafted pieces. Her work is inspired by the architecture and atmosphere of her city. It encourages reflection on the ways we consume artistic treasures in often unsustainable ways, and offering an authentic alternative that successfully integrates locals in the making process.

Michela’s commitment to sustainability and heritage brings depth and authenticity to the candles. Together, the pieces in the Venice Collection invite clients to connect with the cultural essence of the floating city in a tangible and respectful way. The Venice Collection will be available at ANEST COLLECTIVE’s Corso Como 10 pop-up from January 23 to 30, 2025, and on the brand’s websit.
